Parking in Downtown Providence, RI is easiest when you match your parking to your plans. For a quick coffee near Westminster Street, a meter often works well. For a show near the Providence Performing Arts Center, a garage is often the safer bet, since street spots fill up fast.

Downtown Providence has three main parking choices: garages, surface lots, and metered street parking. Most meters cost $1.25 per hour. Signs list enforcement as 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Sundays and holidays are free. You can usually pay with coins, tap-to-pay, text-to-pay, or a mobile parking app like ParkMobile, ParkSmarter, or Passport.1

For longer visits, garages and lots help you avoid meter time limits. Overnight street parking also needs a permit from 2:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. This matters after late events or for an overnight hotel stay.2
